Centro Studi sul Teatro Medievale e Rinascimentale – News

The “Centro Studi sul Teatro Medioevale e Rinascimentale” (Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Theatre Studies) has created a Youtube channel where it will present, in a renewed and commented form, the theatrical productions prepared for the international conferences from 1976 to 2009. In collaboration with the Associazione Rievocazioni Storiche Lazio, over the course of a three-year project, we would like to offer eighteen performances to the academic public and beyond.
We started on 31st March 2021 with “Triduo Pasquale: tra devozione e rinascita del teatro medievale in Europa” (Easter Triduum: between devotion and revival of medieval theatre in Europe) which includes the 1976 performance at the first conference “Dramatic dimensions of medieval liturgy” (Viterbo, 31 May 2 June 1976). TeleRadio Orte television has included the documentary film in its 2021 Holy Week programme.
The project, curated by Prof. Tadeusz (Tadek) Lewicki, in collaboration with Stefania Postiglione and Andrea Bencivenga, for the year 2021 includes:
– The theatre of jesters in the medieval city and community with the “Detto del gatto lupesco” by the Ventura Theatre;
– The comic theatre in the medieval city and community with the “De uxore cerdonis” (The cobbler’s wife), directed by D. Curi;
– The rebirth of tragedy in the Italy of Humanism with the “Ecerinis” (Tragedi di Ezzelino III da Romano by A. Mussato), directed by R. Galli;
– The Umbrian dramatic lauds of the origins with the “Guarda bene disciplinato”, directed by L. Tani
– Archaic representations of popular traditions and the “Il Bal do Sabre” and “Sega la Vecchia”.
– Convivial performances at the Italian courts of the 15th century with the “Coena Cipriani”, directed by F. Molè.
