Newsletter September 2016

Dear members of SITM,

I hope you are enjoying the last sunny days of autumn and those of you who are already teaching again had a good start into the new term. Here is some new information for you:

I. SITM Colloquium, Genova 2019

After the brilliant colloquium in Durham (you have already received the minutes – thank you all so much again!) we now start preparation for Genova. At the general assembly we had to postpone the discussion about topics to an electronic discussion. Admittedly, I feel uneasy to do it on facebook, since our page is an open access page. Dropbox is not quite a handy instrument for so many participants. This is why I decided to test Doodle for it – using it in a different than the normal way. If you access http://doodle.com/poll/gr8qezrv58rbpk5r you will find a table that looks different from the normal doodle tables: Normally it’s columns with dates and lines with people saying “yes”, “(yes) = if necessary” or “no”. Let’s do it the other way round: Please write your suggested topics in a line (where you normally would place your name) and choose one of the columns (“rating x”) as yours. [Note it on a paper which column is yours for later visits.] In this column, please mark all topics that you like with “yes”, those that you find o.k., but not totally inspiring with “(yes)” and those that you don’t like with “no”. You may also leave remarks in the field below…. And yes, I know that you can heavily cheat in this poll, not just because each of you could use several columns (since they are anonymous), but also because you could change the ratings of the others. I simply trust that you don’t have any desire to cheat. At the end, please don’t forget to save your suggestions and ratings.

Could you please write your suggested topics to the doodle poll by October 15th? I will then send you a reminder to have another look at it with all the new suggestions and do the final rating. – Let us see whether this works.

II. Mostly Medieval Theatre Festival / Kalamazoo

For all those of you who will be attending the Kalamazoo International Medieval Congress in May 2017, I attach a Call for performances for a theatre festival concurrent with the congress.

III. German Language Branch

I also attach a call for papers for the SITM regional colloquium of the German language branch. It will take place in spring 2018 in the monastery of Wienhausen. The topic is “theatrical objects”. All of you are welcome to join, I am, however, afraid to tell you that the language of the colloquium will be German.

IV. IMC Leeds, July 3rd–6th, 2017

The deadline for the submission of individual papers for Leeds has passed. The deadline for sessions is September 30th. So far, 9 individual papers and 4 sessions have been suggested in the drama strand. There are others to come. Thank you so much for your initiative!

Wishing you all the best

Cora Dietl
